A couple weeks ago, I
attended a nutrition lecture where the speaker spent 45 minutes discussing the merits and perils of certain kinds of WATER.
Not like, sparkling versus regular. Or flavored versus plain.
Just the differences between plain, flat water.
The talk culminated in his ultimate recommendation to go to the top of a mountain WITH A HOSE and gather your water fresh from the spring.
Now, I don’t know about
you, but the idea that I have the time, inclination or even the DESIRE do that is absurd. It’s the most inaccessible thing for the average person.
And as I left the talk I thought, THIS IS WHY PEOPLE ARE CONFUSED AF ABOUT
NUTRITION.
THIS is why people throw their hands up and say screw it.
THIS is why it’s easier to just not worry about any of it, than to try to wade through the millions of rules, recommendations and guidelines from thousands of coaches and “experts.”
And I don’t blame you.
I left the talk and frankly just wanted to go drink fluoride-fortified water out of a hot plastic water bottle in
rebellion😂
Just kidding, but it was a huge lightbulb for me! THIS is why the all-or-nothing approach to eating exists, and why it’s so hard to
jump out of it.
Because we’re constantly told that if we are not getting our water from a mountain directly, it’s not good enough. Or a salad with low-fat dressing turns it into a sundae from excessive sugar (completely
missing the forest for the trees). Or that if we’re going to eat fruit that’s not organic, then we might as well just eat candy.
Ugh.
It’s so easy to feel discouraged and defeated! Like our efforts are never good enough. Like it’s all too freaking hard so why even bother.
I
get you.
And that’s the ultimate reason I want you to join me in Food Obsession
LIVE over the next 4 weeks. Because I believe that traditional dieting actually makes us dumber.
It makes us dependent robots who are trained to not ask questions, but instead to just follow nutrition “rules”
blindly.
And as result fall further and further into a black hole of rules and restrictions and fear.
And I get that because it’s precisely what I did for a decade.
Program after program, diet after diet. “Start dates” were my life. I barely knew how to grocery shop without some random meal plan in hand. I didn’t know my body at all. I ate according to a clock, was constantly hungry and fighting cravings every second.
I didn’t have the tools, I didn’t understand how deep in I was.
And saddest of all, I felt helpless to do anything different.
And as evidenced by the dozens of emails I receive weekly from women struggling with yo-yo dieting and a black-or-white approach to eating, I know we’re not alone.
And I also know that we have to start taking the reins ourselves.
I did just that in 2010 after my final restrictive diet, and then I reverse-engineered everything that I did and what has been successful with my clients and put everything into the Food Obsession Boot Camp course.
