Hi ,
I was recently asked by an up-and-coming trainer the top 5 biggest insights or actions that have helped me grow in success over
the last 10 years.
I’ve never thought about this before, but I loved the question and it took me less than 30 seconds to list them off.
So while I have so many more big goals and successes I want to achieve at JillFit in the coming years, I thought I’d share with you my answers so far.
These have been the 5 biggest dial-movers for building my business:
1) GENEROSITY AND ADDING AS MUCH FREE VALUE AS POSSIBLE.
I read the
book ‘Inbound Marketing’ in 2010 and it literally changed my whole view of content creation and giving away everything for free. I honestly give away 95% of my tools, insights and strategies for free on social media, my blog and via my email newsletters. I believe that people deserve to be able to achieve low-risk wins with you before ever giving you a dime. It’s our duty to help, first and foremost. And if you’re lucky enough and good enough, eventually you’ll have earned the right to ask for
money 5% of the time.
2) CONNECTION WITHOUT EXPECTATION.
My goal is to always be making genuine connections with people over the internet. Readers, listeners, consumers, peers, colleagues, whoever has an interest. I don’t expect anything in return. I don’t expect readers will buy things. And I don’t expect peers will ever promote me or even pass on a good
word about me. I am interested in deep connection based on value system and shared desire to grow. That’s it. When I am actively pursuing that, I feel super grateful for anything more.
3) TAKE ACTION BEFORE YOU FEEL READY.
It’s simple, but not easy. Half the time I don’t really have a clue what anything I create is going
to look like, or how it’s going to be perceived (or sell), but I jump anyway because I know that early action-taking is a 1% behavior, meaning not many people will do it. And if I’m in that minority, I have a greater chance of success and more opportunity.
4) TRUST YOURSELF ENOUGH TO HANDLE ANY FALLOUT.
This is an extension of #3 above. Jumping before you’re
fully ready requires just that leeeetle bit more trust in yourself.
My mantra: “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going.”
5) INVEST WAY MORE THAN IS COMFORTABLE.
GULP. Over the last 9 months I’ve invested $80k in my business. Obviously, I have worked up to that (in 2011, I made the jump to invest $10k, and it was everything I had (and actually less than I had, ha! Thus, discomfort)). So, I’m not telling you this for any other reason than I think we typically
think that once we grow our platform, we don’t need help anymore. It’s actually the opposite. Every successes entrepreneur I know is investing MORE, not less. You don’t have to spend thousands, but you do have to be an investor. It's a mindset.
Literally no one ever elevated via DIY.
When an opportunity knocks on your door, will you make the leap to
double-down on you? Will you say yes? Will do the uncomfortable thing that not many are willing to do?
I hope so.
For me, saying yes to the scariest, most inconvenient, uncertain things has made ALL the difference.
If I always defaulted to playing things safe, I'd be spending all my days wondering what could have been. Now, I can feel confident that with each scary action step, I am seeing all the angles and giving myself the opportunity to have the full, scary experience. And it's more than worth
it.
So, what will it be?
The JillFit Fitness Business Retreat is next month, and I have 12 spots left (over 100 female-identifying health/fitness pros will be in attendance) – and I’d like to invite you to join
me.
The $200-OFF DISCOUNT ends August 15th!
You can get your ticket HERE.
The event is 2 days in Boston, MA (my hometown), and we’ll be tackling everything from how to grow your social media to how to create programs online, to how to attract distance clients so you can train less at the gym and more from your home.
And so much more! We’ll be holding roundtable
discussions and strategy sessions so that you leave the weekend with an EXACT PLAN for your business (or soon-to-be business), you’ll know exactly what to do and how to do it.
PLUS, we’ll get
to hang IRL, with plenty of face time and up-leveled connection with like-minded fitness folks!
Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll see you there!
