be the anti-Superwoman

My Monday morning mantra is always the same: New week, same goals.

This serves as an affirmation for me to stay focused on what I really want. And to resist getting caught up in the grind (though sometimes it's impossible not to), where I'm distracted, stressed, ineffective and just doing the next thing in front of me, never getting a leg up.

And though that scenario is sometimes unavoidable, I use my weekly affirmation to remind me to keep the important, big-picture stuff in the forefront of my mind and stop sweating the small stuff. Because if I want to create long-term success, I have to take the long view.

Here's an example. I hate cooking and cleaning. There, I said it.

And I've had a lot of shame over that in the past. Every single roommate I've ever had, my parents and my husband have all remarked that I'm probably the messiest person on earth. I don't want to be messy, it's not like a pride myself on it, but because it's not really a priority (I wish it was!), I don't do anything about it.

So, at this point, I have a choice: I can try to force myself to clean. And cook. And be a good little wifey, and stress the hell out about how badly I'm doing it all, stew in shame and "I'm not good enough"-ness and essentially never get to the things I actually love doing.

OR, I can find a solution. Cut myself a break, and find a workaround.

I can play to my strengths and be the Anti-Superwoman.

Because when I try to do everything perfectly, not only do I fall way short, I'm also left feeling disappointed, frustrated, unproductive and miserable.

So, may I propose another strategy for us instead. How about finding and OWNING what we do well, and what we LOVE to do. And kill at that. Because when we do from a place of passion, it's effortless. It's a blast. It's amazing.

And as for the rest? Automate. Outsource. Delegate. Find a work-around. Establish protocols and set boundaries. Let's throw ourselves a bone and play to our strengths instead of trying to bring up our weaknesses.

Because you aren't responsible for being amazing at everything.

And because life is too short to do stuff you hate.

Wishing you an amazingly focused and fun week! Let me know how you're doing :)
