Hi there ,
Today, I want to share with you something you might not know.
I got into the fitness industry in the first place was because growing up, I loved to dance, I was obsessed with dancing. In fact, five of my best girlfriends and I, in 6th grade formed a dance group called 'Young Stars' (ha!) where we'd make up dances and go around dancing in talent shows and for younger kids in our school at their gym classes (can you tell I was slated for a life in exercise from the get-go? ;)). I even learned all
the dances from Janet Jackson's albums (hello, early 90s!) and would teach them to my friends! Lol.
Soooo, I guess I was kind of a group fitness instructor even way back then.
I feel in love with movement because what's better than doing something you love that also
makes you feel amazing?
From dancing, it turned into step aerobics in my teens and then every group fitness workout under the sun in my 20s. I don't teach anymore but I will always creep on an insane step aerobics class wherever I travel, including Europe where they take group fitness incredibly serious. I was the worst in the last class year in the UK! Ha!
But, dance aerobics, anything where you move to the beat of the music, fun choreography, has always been a love of mine and it was that path that took me to everything else. I will forever be grateful for mom & pop, Webb's Gym in Hanover, MA for getting me started! :)
Years later, still one of the hardest workouts and most
rewarding classes for me was cardio kickboxing.
I had the honor and pleasure of recording 14 video workouts for Comcast -- aired live via their fitness channels -- including kickboxing and interval training and Tabata a few years ago. And I still receive so many emails from men and women sharing the incredible results they've gotten with those workouts (for those who
have written in, thank you!).
For me, kickboxing has always been more than a workout. It's a body, mind and soul transformation. The punching, kicking, kneeing and blocking makes you feel strong and powerful.
And the benefits include not
only transforming into a badass, but because boxing requires you learn different movement patterns and recruit new muscles, the body stays responsive. And I don't know about you, but boxing beats traditional cardio in the boredom category any day.
